Acoustic Leak Detection in Sydney
Acoustic leak detection in Sydney finds a hidden pipe leak by sound, even under concrete.
Tell us what's happening

The short answer
Water escaping a pressurised pipe makes a noise, even under concrete. Our listening gear hears it through paving, soil and tile and follows it to the loudest point, so the hole goes in once, in the right place.
How it works
Step 1: Call or book online
Tell us what is happening. We ask the right questions and book a time that suits you.
Step 2: We find the cause
A licensed plumber diagnoses it properly, with a drain camera, leak detection or a pressure test where it helps.
Step 3: A fixed price, agreed first
You agree the price before any work starts. We quote the job, not the hour, so there are no surprise charges.
Step 4: Done right, guaranteed
We finish the job, clean up, and back our workmanship with a lifetime labour guarantee.
Step 5: You know the price first
The figure for the whole job, in writing, before anyone starts. That figure is what turns up on the invoice.

Questions and answers
A set of sensitive listening gear: a rod that picks up sound from fittings and exposed pipe, and a ground microphone that picks it up through the surface, feeding a pair of headphones and a readout. It amplifies the leak noise and filters out some of the background.
Yes. Concrete and pavers carry sound well, which is why acoustic gear is so useful under driveways and slabs.
Less well. Poly and PEX muffle the sound, so on plastic lines we use listening to narrow the area and tracer gas to pinpoint it.
On a clear peak over copper, usually within a hand's width or so. On plastic pipe or in noisy conditions the area is wider, which is when tracer gas comes out.
Hire kits are available, but the skill is in reading the sound against the background, and a wrong reading puts a hole in the wrong place. If you do try it, don't dig on it until a plumber has confirmed the spot.
Because a running pump is louder than most leaks. Switching it off, along with irrigation and anything else humming nearby, makes the leak easier to hear.
